Pageant History

The Miss Rodeo California Pageant is held annually to select a young lady who has the desire and enthusiasm to serve as a goodwill ambassador in the State of California for the sport of professional rodeo.  Miss Rodeo California is awarded the prestigious opportunity to represent California in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.  The Miss Rodeo America Pageant is held in December each year in conjunction with the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Previously held in Turlock, the Miss Rodeo California Pageant moved to Sacramento in 1982 and then to Brawley in 1988.  In 1989, the Pageant moved to Poway to be held in conjunction with the Poway Rodeo.  After 5 successful years in Poway, the 1995 Pageant was held in Fresno in conjunction with the World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity.

An enthusiastic group of interested people in San Dimas then made a bid for the Pageant to move to that city located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County.  Since that time, the Pageant has been held in San Dimas with the help of a wonderfully supportive business community and a solid core of volunteers.  This year the Miss Rodeo California Pageant will be under new leadership, and relocated to Paso Robles, in the beautiful wine and horse country of the central coast of California.

The Miss Rodeo California Pageant Executive Board of Directors has pledged to make the pageant memorable for each entrant.  The Executive Board is confident that the Miss Rodeo California who is chosen will represent her state with grace, enthusiasm and professionalism, while promoting the sport of professional rodeo.

The many prizes and awards, presented to the Contestants, and the statewide recognition they receive, have all combined to entice many of the young ladies interested in horses, and in particular the world of rodeo, to become entrants in this event.  Scholarships have also been an important part of the Pageant and these are intended to assist the winners in extending their education and knowledge.

In the pages that follow, you will be given the specific instructions as to how you can become part of the great history and tradition of the Miss Rodeo California Pageant.  Please read the material carefully and should you have any questions, we hope you will contact us for clarification.  We want your participation and we look forward to making this year’s Pageant a memorable event for everyone involved.
